A company called Natural Machines has created a device that can 3D print full meals, from chicken nuggets to pizza to salads.

It's called "Foodini" (get it?), and it prints food using edible materials pressed out of stainless steel capsules. CNN spoke with the co-founder of Natural Machines, Lynette Kucsma, who talked more about the cooking process:

"It's the same technology [as a 3D printer], but with plastics there's just one melting point, whereas with food it's different temperatures, consistencies, and textures. Also, gravity works a little bit against us, as food doesn't hold the shape as well as plastic."

After the food is printed, it must be cooked like a traditional meal. Future models will completely cook the food.

Kucsma said the Foodini will first be meant for kitchen professionals, but that a consumer version is coming for around $1000. Expect mass manufacturing to start in late 2015.

Sounds nice for those who can't cook. Which would be me.

I rather have robots and machines which can cook, and clean the kitchen for me. With a real 3D printer, it would be possible to 3D print the parts like arms, fingers, gears, and body for a robot which can cook, and do other tasks.

I think food cook by a human will still taste better, and I probably trust that I be getting a good tasting, clean, and healthy meal from a restaurant which has chief which has a chief diploma at a community college, and trades school with a cooking classes.

The 3D printer could be hacked by a hacker to undercook food where it is not safe to eat, and cause people to get food poisoning from undercooked meat, chicken, and fish in the future version of the 3D printer which also cooks food.

It would probably be cheaper to use traditional cooking tools like a Microwave, stove, blenders, and borrow a few cook books from the library. There are also a lot of free meal recipes on food forums, blogs, YouTube, and websites.

I bet the replacement parts and repairs for this food printer will be very expensive like replacement parts for other kitchen appliances like fridges, dishwashers, ovens, stoves, fryers, etc where repairs and replacement parts can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars because of the repair man overcharging his customers, and replacement parts company charging a lot of money for their parts.

I think very few people will buy a 3D food printer for their home because they still need to buy the ingredients, and a food printer for cooking food which would not save them money, and can end up being more expensive than just going out to eat, or buying microwavable food where you just need to microwave food for a few minutes.

I think the main issue is taking it apart to clean it. Gooey and sticky stuff would be a big issue.

I agree cleaning this printer would be an issue since I bet some of the parts can't be put in a dish washer, or kitchen sink, so the owner end up spending a lot of time scrubbing the printer of food.

Things like this kind of gross me out and I don't know why. I'd hate to think something I was eating was produced by a printer.
chances are the printer would be better than a cook, that could be sick or hasn't taken proper actions to ensure his hands and cooking area are clean.

I imagine bugs, rats, moths, and flies could be a problem if you leave the food to print itself with no one watching the food while it is printing since insects, and rodents may not be afraid of machines like a 3D printer which only print compared to an angry human with a fly swatter, rolled up newspaper, broom stick, wooden hammer and other weapon to kill insects, and harm rodents.

I also don't really want to eat food which is squirted out of a machine except for hot dogs, sassages, and weiners where you need to grind up the meat to squirt it in the skin.

I think, if you mostly eat meat, fish, fruit,  grains like rice, and vegetables, it would not make much sense to print it out, and cook it since a lot of these foods can be eaten after you remove the skin, bones, and cook it by boiling, frying, steaming, and microwaving them. A lot of Fruits and Vegetables can be eaten after you wash it, and chopped it.

Like a toaster, you would just need to get a cover or case for it.
