We’re still holding our breath for the announcement that Capcom, SEGA and Namco Bandai’s strategy RPG crossover for 3DS, Project X Zone, will be coming stateside. In the meantime, some juicy new details have surfaced to help tide us over, thanks to the latest issue of Famitsu.

As translated by Andriasang, the new issue reveals that Project X Zone is being developed by Monolith Soft, best known for the Xenosaga series. The battles will be fully voice acted, with an ample amount of pre- and post-battle chatter. The game will also employ a Cross Active Battle System. Basically, battles will be grid-based, similar to most overhead strategy RPGs. When you attack an enemy on the grid, you’ll go into a separate battle scene, like the one below.

When in a battle scene, players will be able to press a combination of the D-pad and A button to execute combo attacks. It was also hinted that there may be some sort of character growth component. Each character will start off with two or three skills, and as they level up they’ll gain more (up to five total). These skills can also be powered up, though details on that weren’t revealed at this time. The game will reward you with bonuses for using all of your different abilities, rather than just spamming the same one over and over again.

There will also be a “Cross Point” gauge onscreen, which builds up as you attack enemies. The gauge is shared between all characters, and when it’s full it allows players to execute special attacks and defensive moves. Project X Zone will also be placing special emphasis on the game’s pacing, making sure enemy attacks conclude quickly so players regain control as soon as possible.
