The PlayStation 4 will debut later this year below $400, Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia said in a note to investors today ahead of next week's Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles.

He said Sony was negatively impacted from launching the PlayStation 3 at an "extremely high" $600 and that the company will not repeat this pricing.
"Given that experience, we believe Sony will aim to keep the price point for PlayStation 4 below $400," Bhatia said.
He added that because Sony's PlayStation Network is free, the company is missing out on an opportunity to subsidize the next-generation system through a subscription model.
Still, he believes Sony will stick with a sub-$400 price point, even if it means losing money on the console itself.
Concerning Nintendo's showing at E3 next week, Bhatia said though the company is in a "tough spot" and expectations are low, it is unwise to bet against the Mario maker.
"Never write-off Nintendo," he said, noting the company has the potential to surprise gamers.

What? Really? I'm just waiting on the posts, but that's dumb. Stop what's Vereen announced so far? KH III get av Talley and release date? What about the remake of KH II?

When the PS1 came out I bought it for around $480 on the first day. Then it became a rare and I was offered about $900 to take it by people who were acting like crackheads because "sony didn't make enough" and the demand went up.

When ps2 came out I didn't see the ticket price and didn't purchase it. It became rare because "they didn't make enough" the prices went up to around $1800 max for anyone willing to give theirs up for about a month.

When ps3 came out I didn't buy it in the beginning either. The first day there was stampedes of people acting like crackheads trying to get on off of the shelve at walmart. There was like 12 people killed on the first day of the release of ps3 because of being trampled. The ticket price went up to as high as $45K for anyone willing to give it up.

Obviously they did this on purpose because a large company like sony can easily bring in an additional factory since there is a demand for the machines. It's a business trick that is done all too often.

My question to you guys is, do you really think that this time is going to be different? Whatever price they are giving will stay for 24hrs then they will be sold out and the price will go up to $20K. When they do restock the shelves they will be able to throw practically any price between $400 and $900 and still sell a ton.

Sounds great. I hope it affects the prices in my country in a positive way as well. Where I live, all electronics are nearly double the price when you compare them to United States. I can't remember how much it cost me to buy my Xbox 360, but I'm sure it was more than at 700$. I guess it would be too unrealistic for me to expect to buy the PS4 for 400$, but I would be happy if I can manage to buy it for 550$ I guess. Looks like Microsoft will have no chance against Sony in this generation, especially where I live.

And now the price has been confirmed! It is amazing what these new gen consoles have achieved already. :) We can see that there is going to be a heated competition and that PS is currently winning the race by a far. Quite happy to say that actually being a PS fan boy and all ;) However Xbox One still has a while to redeem itself, so no saying where it can go from here!

I'm so glad the PS4 was $100 bucks less than the XBone. PS4 just decapitated whatever little chance the XBone had left of being competitive when the systems release. I don't see how Microsoft recovers from this.

I'm glad that it's not as expensive as the PS3 at launch. $400 is still not cheap but we have seen really worse. The fact that it is $100 under the XBox One's price it a good thing too, it will help Sony distance themselves from Microsoft and it will appeal to Xbox players who might consider the switch to save money.

At $500+, I wouldn't have considered it for at least a year, until the first price drop, but at $400, maybe I will!

I don't think you'll see it much cheaper than 400 bucks for a little while. Maybe on Black Friday you'll find it for 350 or for 400 with a game or two. The fact that it is beating Microsoft by 100 speaks volumes. No need to lower their price in Sonys eyes.

I think that the ps4 is very reasonably priced. They haven't tried to gauge the consumer and I will be one of the people waiting in line to get my PS4, unless xbox comes out with something to change my mind.

Yes sir. Price is $399.99. Get em while they last. Oh wait, they're not out yet. Well when they do come out, the price is good for it.
