With sony struggling with the PS3 right now, and with PS3 having all the latest tech in it. Do you think it could be many years before sony could begin working on a PS4? And what would you like to see in it?
(if sony plans on a PS4 they almost be working on it right now)
Well I don't think the PS4 will come out for awhile. That is because the tech that the PS3 has is advanced and they keep updating, so it won't be awhile till they announce it either.
I believe we will see PS4 at least at some showroom by November 2011. My living room would be better place for it though by November 2011.
Many parts are lining up for a new gen in 2010/2011 to begin. DirectX 11, Open GL 3, Intel RT, Caustic RT and many other APIs in the works. Open CL is making a debut on Mac platforms soon as well. Most of them are set to debut in 2010. So 2010/2011 is more than enough cushion for them. Also on another note with PC games moving towards DirectX 11 in 2009/2010 consoles will be left behind unless some new hardware comes out. Microsoft has Project Pheonix coming. Which is 99.9% likely to be new Xbox. We will also hear of new Playstation, but not for another year. As Project Pheonix comes along for 2010 launch I say Sony will be ready to unveil their project as well only in 2010 though. E3/TGS 2010 we will see PS4.
Cell 2 or whatever it is to be called is to be unveiled in 2010 at the latest according to recent slides. More than likely with a little brushing up and tweaking it will be ready for 2011 launch. Wether or not next PS console will use only 2 Cells or some other Graphics chip it will need support for Open GL 2 for PS3 games to work on it. My bet is on Intel RT or Caustic RT API to be implemented. Most likely it will be Intel's API though. As it supports DirectX 11 textures and stuff as well as Open GL stuff and also has room to do its own thing with its ray tracing API. So it could be more advanced.
I think they will start showing new stuff around 2011 or 2012. Sony usually has a very long lifespan for gaming console. Just look at the PS2, they still have games lined up for for a 2010 game release.
I think the PS4 will not come out for a while since there are still a lot of people who don't own PS3, and Sony needs to focus on making the PS3 more popular with everyone.

oh the PS3 is struggling, sony is dealing with people thinking about taking games off the PS3 and put onto the Wii or 360 and they are losing money on the system.
The PS3 still have hit titles like Gran tourismo, Final Fantasy, and God of War, Spyro, etc to keep it a float.
But, I agree the PS3 is in third place when it comes to consoles since the Wii and xbox 360 seems to have more titles. I notice at one store I go to the PS2, Wii, and 360 shelf is fuller then the PS3 shelf.
Maybe sony will be like Sega Dreamcast which had games mostly made by Sega instead of third-parties like EA.
