As the world's largest video game expo approaches, two juicy PlayStation rumors have been supposedly confirmed, though one of them may not be officially discussed by Sony until near the end of summer. According to a report by Ars Technica (read the full story here), the PSP Go!, the rumored revamped edition of the PlayStation Portable, is indeed real, and it also appears that a smaller, slimmed-down PS3 may be making its way to retail shelves as well.
The report claims that Sony is in fact gearing up to release a leaner model of their PS3 console, but won't do so until retailers have sold through their existing units. The company plans on waiting for stores to sell all of their remaining PS3 systems, and only then offer the thinner edition when distributors start to restock their inventory. It has also been speculated that a price cut may follow the slimmed-down PS3, but that has yet to be confirmed.
As for the PSP Go!, the Ars Technica insider says that we can expect to see the UMD-less PSP unveiled at E3. The Go! is expected to be both lighter and more energy efficient than the current PSP system, though the existing model isn't expected to be pulled off shelves anytime soon. Instead, the two PSP's are expected to be offered side by side, presenting buyers with a choice.
