In an announcement at Tokyo Game Show this week, Sony has confirmed that they will be integrating support for DualShock controllers on the PSP in certain titles. The DualShock support comes in the form of a new feature called PSP Plus, which will first be available with Resistance: Retribution. The mode will be selectable exclusively from within the game and not from the PSP home nav. Once enabled, however, the users will be able to connect their PSP to an external display and a PS3, and then use a DualShock 3 to control their PSP.
The PSP Plus mode enables users to get the most out of their game, especially with the PSP's lack of dual thumbsticks and rumble support. By incorporating the DualShock 3, however, users will get both. The necessity for several external devices seems to be somewhat counterintuitive to the sole purpose of the PSP, which is independent, portable gaming. Personally, we'd rather save time and money and just play Resistance 2 on our PS3s, but there's no telling what technological tap-dancing the average PSP fan would be willing to subject themselves to.
