The PSPgo is getting a price drop just over a year since it released as its cut from $249 to $199 in the States and from 26,800 to 16,800 yen in Japan.
First launched in October 2009, the PSPgo is a UMD-less take on Sony's handheld formula, and it received lukewarm reviews on release. One major criticism was the unit's price – which today's cut (picked up by Reuters) goes some way to answering.
The cut will also further stoke rumours of an imminent announcement of a successor to the PSP, something that's been a loosely guarded secret at Sony.
There's no word yet on a price cut for the UK and EU, and we await Sony's response on the matter.

Sony is slashing the PSP go's price in Japan. Starting October 26, the download-only PSP variant will shave 10,000 yen off its 26,800 yen ($333) price tag, bringing its new price to 16,800 yen ($208).
The 16,800 yen price point should sound familiar to those who keep up with the Japanese scene. It's the same price as the UMD-based PSP-3000 system.
Sony did not announce a price drop for the PSP-3000, but they don't have to. In Japan, PSP-3000 is just about the hottest system, constantly placing first or second in the weekly hardware charts. The strong sales are likely to continue into the new year as games like Monster Hunter Freedom 3 and The 3rd Birthday see release.
Unlike PSP-3000, PSP go has had a rough time in Japan, selling less than Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2 in the weekly sales charts. Many attribute the poor sales to the lack of availability of key titles in download form, so it remains to be seen if a lower price point will remedy the situation.

they could sell this for free, and it's sales would still stuck.
