ok so Im planning on getting a 3ds xl when the pikachu comes out the 24th, but i have some major questions about how I would be able to transfer my data such as friend list, eshop downloads, and media. So this is the problem, I dont completely understand how to do the transfer or anything, and Im not going to be able to afford the xl unless i trade in my 3ds first. so would they let me do the transfer there in the store (gamestop)?? If you can help me in anyway it would be much appreciated.

You would have to call GameStop for that information. I, however, transferred all of my stuff from my DSi to my 3DS that I still own and am confused as to why Flipnote couldn't move yet everything else can. The excuse it gave me was "This software is still on the market so it cannot be transferred." Yet so was all of my other stuff such as Wario Ware Snapped and Photo Dojo >.>

to transfer the information is easy enough - and cute as hell, I may add! You go into system settings and then Data Management and tell it to transfer from or to the units. You need a Wi-Fi connection to be in the area as it uploads the data to your club.nintendo.com account (Which was nice because when I bought things on my DSi there was no way to re-download them at a later date but now that I moved them to the 3DS it associated them as purchased with my linked account, finally!) then moves it. A bunch of Pikmin will Zurg rush onto your screen and grab the icon of the game, snap it into 4 pieces and move them, then re-assemble the icon on the other console. Images it simply carries over as it is a tiny icon so no need of snapping. Occasionally, a Pikmin or two will get trounced by the horde rushing over them and flattened, which is funny to watch.

oh i think i understand now. then your just switch the sd card over. hopefully gamestop will let me do it there or i might have to wait a few weeks....and nobody wants that lol but thank you for your help

I have it took care of. I talked my aunt into buying my 3ds for my little cousin. Shes going to give me like $150 for it xD

I don't understand what you mean about switching the SD Card over. Do you mean after transferring the items? Because the licenses for the downloaded items only transfers if you use the system's transfer tool in system settings. If you don't transfer it as I described you will be unable to ever download your purchased content again without having to repay for it.

Ah, then yes. That is precisely how to do it. ^.^ As for GameStop, it depends on the manager. Mine would allow me to but only if it was early morning and no one was in the store. but then again, when I had TigressStar living with me I dropped about 200.00 or more a month on games there and they knew I wasn't going to try and con them somehow. I basically put their kids through college.

yeah when i called gamestop yesterday they said i might be able to use one of the manangers phone for a hot spot. but its alright now since im just going to have my aunt buy the 3ds. and its works out perfect with that club nintendo deal where you buy a new xl and then the pokemon or luigis mansion game and you get the free game. game. I wanted the star fox since i got my 3ds lol

Hopefully someone can answer my questions on this topic as well:

What is the max amount of SD memory that the 3DS XL can read?

Does it support specific kinds of SD brands? Any?

Not sure about the first one, but for the second, I don't think the brand has anything to do with it. No, from what I hear the SD card has to be formatted a certain way. It usually works, but sometimes you may have to reformat the thing to get the 3DS to recognise it.

Max size might be about 32GB, although I'm not sure.

From what I read online the max size was 32 GB, so that seems correct. I've not had a problem with different brands but I know the PS3 and 360 have problems with different flash drive brands, so I understand the concern.

3DS(and XL) accepts max 4 GB SD card and max 32GB SDHC card, there is a difference in SD and SDHC, so don't get confused. Btw, you might want to save some dough by getting a microSD card and an adapter. It's more versatile.

flipnote was banned from 3ds in favour of a new one (the one announced recently)

all the other dsiware was, some exceptions though

and everything would transfer, but your old system would be done after you transfer everything. i'm pretty sure they'd let you - i knew a friend who was able to do that, i think
