NOTE: If you can't handle a mature subject like this, please leave. No one wants a close-minded idiot flaming mindlessly.
Racism and slavery are two very sensitive topics to discuss. Many feel the subject is inappropriate for small children, when in reality they need to hear about it so that history does not repeat itself. This is simply a thread where you can discuss racism and slavery, share your opinions on the matter, and have discussion with other users. I find this to be an interesting topic to discuss, so hopefully we get some discussion.
My Views
Racism: I highly disagree with this. While I feel that all stereotypes have a basis, relying on them to describe the entirety of a man's (or woman's) character is absurd. Treating others differently based on race is also very wrong. And this extends to advantages as well as disadvantages.
One thing I believe should never have existed is Hispanic Heritage Month. While it's great that we are celebrating the accomplishments of Hispanics, I thought your race was supposed to be irrelevant? This just sends a mixed message to me. I know that this sounds like no big deal, but that's because you've grown up with it, and become accustomed to it. How do these sound to you?
Asian Accomplishment Month
White's Win Month
Black's Legacy Month
Pretty bad, huh? Same concept as Hispanic Heritage. If you really want to keep this month of celebration, dedicate one week in it to each of the groups listed above, maybe add another month for all the groups I surely missed.
Basically, I think race should be more or less ignored. Judge people, for the bad and the good on their character, not their color.

NOTE: I realize my next part on slavery may conflict with your views. Be respectful.
Slavery: I don't have much to say here, so I'll keep it short and sweet. To be honest, I've never understood the stance many African-Americans take on this subject. While it may be true that white men used the Africans, it was the tribal leaders themselves that sold them to us! I think that every race has done something wrong regarding slavery, so we just need to remember that slavery benefits none, and move on, instead of pointing fingers at each other, and holding grudges
