And there it is; the death knell we all knew would ring out eventually.

RadioShack has officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Once a homebase to the radio/homebrew/DIY geeks of the world, Radioshack devolved into a glorified cell phone store in the early 2000s. While they've spent the last few years trying to find their roots with things like a dedicated section for Arduino gear*, they've mostly failed to get bodies back in the store.

This is too bad. I remember buying a S-video cable for my Playstation 2, AC adapter for an electronic piano, solar power fan for an elementary school science project in the 90s, surge protected power bar, and other stuff from RadioShack until it became The Source by Circuit City in Canada.

Hopefully, RadioShack can recover from Bankruptcy like RIM Blackberry Smartphone which is doing better these days than the past.

I hope we don't lose the one in my town, the only best place to get tech that isn't over priced like best buy.

There is always Wal-mart for cheap electronics, but the service at Wal-mart is not as good as Radioshack where a Radioshack worker usually ask if you need help while at Wal-mart, you get worse or no service, and Wal-Mart staff may follow you in its store to make sure you are not stealing from them.

The stuff at Radioshack is more expensive than Wal-Mart, but most of the things I bought from Radioshack in the past are more durable than cheap stuff bought from a discount store like the dollar store or Wal-Mart.

RadioShack also had stores in Mexico (Monterrey at least, if I recall correctly) and they were good.
I too hope they recover.
