Today in Los Angeles Capcom hosted a blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross to support the release of Resident Evil 5. The event was hosted in the heart of Hollywood at the World of Wonder Gallery where hundreds of gamers gathered to donate blood, get some free RE5 swag, and a chance to win copies of the game and limited edition RE5 Xbox 360 consoles. IGN was on hand to watch gamers literally bleed in the name of geekdom.

As you can see, if you're looking for gallons of blood, the promise of free food, swag, and an opportunity to play Resident Evil 5 is all you need to lure hundreds of unsuspecting gamers out into the open. Attendees were asked to pre-register online prior to the event, however, hundreds more showed up to donate.

The line for the event extended out of the door and down the street, with even some prospective donors dressed up as characters from the game. To keep the anxious gamers at bay, Capcom had hourly drawings for free copies of the game and those who had already donated were able to play the game on several kiosks around the room. Attendees also entered for a chance to win one of four limited edition Resident Evil 5 Xbox 360 consoles.

Additionally, those who donated were given event-exclusive collectibles, such as posters, bumper stickers, and buttons, each with custom comic-style art.
