I know that in western countries reading direction is always from left to right, while in Arabic countries and Israel this is always from right to left.
Here in Japan it's sometimes top to bottom, and sometimes left to right.
Basically if the reading direction is top to bottom, you start reading at the right-most side and move to the left.
And if reading direction is left to right, you start reading at the top-most side, and move to the bottom.
Here is an example I took from an older Shonen Jump issue:
Here you should see both reading directions shown.
So in the case of what's written in the text balloon, we start from 完結してなくてOK！, and read our way to 応募可能！, then move on to 手軽＆気軽！！, then move on to 審査員...一緒に考えてくれる！？.
After that, we go to the part below, and reading direction is the same as in western countries.
I tried to learn the Arabic alphabet before, but always got confused when trying to read it because I'd always read from left to right instead of right to left automatically.
Likewise when I read a western comic; I'd always naturally start reading the right-most balloon and move on to the left, which effectively results in the story making absolutely no sense.
So my question of the day: did you ever try reading in a different direction from what you're used to?
And if yes, did you got confused? Or did you adjust perfectly fine instantly?
