Recommendations for games to buy on Steam?

I'm using a Steam account to setup some functionality on this site (mainly integration), and I also plan to play a few more PC games in general in the foreseeable future.

So what games would you recommend? I don't want to buy games also on the eShop, since I can test out my capture card on those. I know about bundles, so that's fine. I know that a few meme popular games like the Five Nights at Freddy's series probably need coverage on Gaming Reinvented, so I'll likely try those. But other suggestions?

Beat Hazard is my favorite Steam game. It's basically a twin stick shooter, but it's based around your music. You pick which song you play, and then it throws out enemies and bosses to the beat- and you can download different ships to use or even make you're own. And I mean ships like flying skulls, arwings, a Simpson's donut, different Pokemon, anything you want. If you're a music lover, or a twin stick shooter lover, it's a really fun game. It is extremely bright and flashy though, so if you think that'd bother you I'd suggest you watch some videos of gameplay first. I love the graphics, but they're pretty intense, and I'm not positive you can turn them down either. If you buy it, make sure you get the 'Mega Bundle' that comes with the Shadow Operations unit stuff. It gives it some extra content that's worth the price and also iTunes support (Though I've never tried it).

Another that might be worth covering is Armello. It's a card/board based game; you'd have to look it up. I have it, but haven't gotten the chance to play it yet. It had a kickstarter that went really, really well, then was released to Steam, and jsut recently announced that it was going to PS4, so it might be a good one to review for the site.

Starbound is also a fun one, if you liked Terraria.

Thank you! I'll check them out tomorrow!

I'll throw Civ V into the mix, as that game's one of my most played items. Excellent turn based strategy, very in-depth.

I'll also mention FORCED as a title you likely haven't heard of. Indie developer, their first game, and it's excellent. It combines puzzle and action elements in a manner I hadn't seen before, and features up to four player co-op. There are actually four versions of the game, one each for how many people are playing…the goal there was to make it just as challenging no matter how many are working together, so time limits and enemy count are far stricter on four player mode than they are in single player mode. Very enjoyable, and a game I plan to 100% eventually…even if the crystals I'm missing now are downright evil on how you get them.

If you like Zombies and want a take that is purely based around survival, not killing the hordes, take a look at Project Zomboid. Old school graphics, but in a pleasant way. Essentially, you're told at the beginning this is a 'how long can you hold out' scenario. Help isn't coming, you've got to loot houses and stores for provisions and supplies, and eventually electricity and water utilities die, forcing you to find alternative ways to keep warm/cool and quench your thirst. The game ends when you die (you can of course save and come back later). It's still in beta, with things like other survivors still to come, but I've spent a good chunk of time in it. Multiplayer is active, but I've never checked it out myself, mainly because I'm still learning how to survive once water dies. Need to experiment with carpentry more.

I'd recommend FNAF (but you said that it's gonna get more coverage on this site, so that's fine). If you're into LEGO and Minecraft, LEGO released the early access for LEGO Worlds.

EDIT: There's also GMod, TF2, things like that :p

Lego Worlds would be a good one to buy to keep tabs on it's progress of development, kind of like what I did. I'm really excited for it's headed, but it's pretty feature sparse right now.

If you want a new game that's heading out and causing a big media storm right now, look in Ark: Survival Evolved. It's a fantastic looking dinosaur survival game that, I at least, am seriously excited about. The only reason I haven't bought it yet is that while I like multiplayer, I hate multiplayer with random people- I don't like putting effort into soemthing that the first jerk I see is going to obliterate just because he can. Had the same issue with Rust... I prefer cooperative gameplay, and I wanna see what kind of server options and such it'll have.

Did you get a gaming PC? Check out the nice sale going on now. Don't buy anything until it is a front page deal!

You chose a good time to get into it, the summer sale just started.

If you're interested in a game, check to see how long the discount lasts for. If it says it ends on 22 of June, don't buy it. It could be included in a flash sale later for much less. If not, then make sure to buy it before it's too late!

I have to recommend the Half-Life franchise. I feel like the first one pretty much serves as an enjoyable but dated 15 hour set up for the second one, and there is a reason people treat HL2 like it's the citizen kane of video games.

See, some games have sections that really make you think, "wow. That was AWESOME", like the giant bowser fights from bowser's inside story, or a satisfying final boss. HL2 is a compilation of that type of moment.

So, you recommend the Half Life franchise and whatever's on sale? I'll check out the former, although some more specific suggestions would be nice in regards to the latter.
