Those anticipating diving into Tripwire's punishing World War II shooter will have to wait a little longer. Originally scheduled to be released in late August 2011, the release date has been pushed back to September 13.

The reason for the delay, expressed by Tripwire through an email blast to press, is to give the game an extra layer of polish.

If you haven't been following along with coverage, Red Orchestra 2 challenges you to fight through Allied and Axis single-player campaigns as well as provides a sizeable multiplayer suite. Though it's far from a simulation, the first-person shooting action has a realistic edge. You can't just absorb bullets indefinitely with the aid of a regenerating health bar – death is fast and frequent.
