Game and movie rental service Redbox has announced that it's raising rental prices for games, DVDs, and Blu-Ray discs in the US.

Under the new daily pricing standards, the cost of DVDs will go up by 30 cents to $1.50, Blu-Rays will set you back another 50 cents at $2, and games rental prices will go up a full dollar to $3.

Most of the price changes will take effect on December 2 of this year, but the games price hike won't happen until January 6, 2015.

Redbox isn't shying away from the fact that overall rental volume will probably fall as a result of higher prices, but the company said that the higher profits per rental along with some behind-the-scenes cost cutting will help it "offset future declines in the physical rental market."

The company also pointed out that actual costs might vary by location, so customers should pay attention to their local pricing and might be best advised to check out the Redbox App or website. Both Netflix and Amazon Prime have raised their prices in the past year, which shows the climb in entertainment prices isn't unique to physical retail.
