Speaking with The Verge, sources claim Apple is using their considerable influence to muscle freemium streaming out of the picture. One source said “all the way up to Tim Cook, these guys are cutthroat”.
I guest, people will go back to downloading free MP3s from singers who release their music for free, and rely on concert sales to make money, or download pirated music from websites.
There is always AM/FM Radio which broadcast free music which people can listen to,
I think Freemium music is supported by advertisers, and sponsors like soda companies which pay to sponsor free music. There is also usually a paid membership which cost $10 and more a month like at Spotify.
I think paying for streaming is kind of a rip off compared to buying Used Music CDs which you can get for a few dollars at Amazon, and you get to keep the CD forever, and also rip the CD Audio files into Uncompress audio files like WAV and FLAC which sounds the best compared to streaming which does not sound as good as uncompressed audio files.
I agree, paying for streaming is kind of a waste since there are many free MP3s, and buying paid MP3s from Amazon only cost about a dollar if you choose to pay for music where there are no free alternative.
AM/FM radio, and internet radio stations also has stations which broadcast free music all day.
I read some of the more popular music singers like Taylor Swift don't like freemium music streaming because they earn very little money from ads, or even the paid subscription because the ad earnings and paid subscriptions are not enough to fairly pay songwriters, singers, and the band which play musical instruments.
