The increasingly busy Mark Gurman shared new details on the upcoming Apple TV on Monday, claiming that sources with insider knowledge believe the updated software, hardware and peripherals of the fourth-generation Apple TV will give Apple a chance to compete with the PS4, Xbox One and Wii U in the coming months.

Sources say that the bundled remote control, which will purportedly feature physical buttons and a touchpad, will allow gamers to interact with games downloaded from the App Store. But the Apple TV will also reportedly support more advanced Bluetooth game controllers as well.

This will open up new opportunities for developers that are used to building apps for a smartphone or tablet display. It will take time before Apple has a catalog of software that could compete with Uncharted, Halo or Mario, but it’s a step in the right direction if Apple wants the Apple TV to sit alongside other gaming consoles.

I guest, Apple TV wants to get into Games because there are many cheaper settop TV boxes like Chromecast, Roku, and Android TV. Making the Apple TV a game console could get more people to buy the Apple TV, so they can play games on TV without buying a more expensive console like the PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U.

I have to question why its so cheap.

I have to question why its so cheap.

I think it is cheap, so Apple can convince people to buy the Apple TV to stream Netflix instead of a more expensive console like the Wii U to stream Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube.

Another reason the Apple TV is so cheap maybe because of the iTunes Downloadable movies, tv shows, and music stores which sell media files, so Apple can afford to sell the Apple TV for a cheaper price because they will earn back the money when users buy TV shows, movies, and music from iTunes.

Apple TV also probably occasionally shows commercials for the iPod Touch, iPad, iPhone, and Mac PC which is more expensive, so Apple will get more buyers for their more expensive products from showing video commercials to Apple TV users.

This isn't Apple's first attempt to cash in on the home console market. Back when Apple was run by people who had no idea what the hell they were doing, They released the notorious Apple Bandai Pippin: A $600 computer-console-thing with a 56K modem that had like a handful of games.

Keep in mind: this was at a time when its competition was the SNES and sega genesis, and it had some distinct advantages. It played CDs, it browsed the internet, it supported 3D...

The problem was that the 3D framerate was choppier than a game of fruit ninja, the pricetag was a mortgage payment, and the games were about as fun as those Mavis Beacon typing simulators from 1996.

Lets hope the Apple TV isn't anything like this:
