Hi everyone! First post here

I heard about Nintendo's plan to release games digitally in addition to selling retail copies. This caters to both people who love owning physical copies and being able to display everything they own, as well as those who dislike clutter and like having centralised without needing to carry around all their games with them wherever they go.

Here's what I'm thinking - I fall into both those categories

I love having all my books and games on display on my shelf, but I also like convenience - just as I'd buy a book and display it on my shelf but *obtain* it digitally to read on a Kindle on public transport, I'd like to own the physical 3DS copies, but also *legally* own it digitally.

Has anyone read/heard anything that will allow retail owners to play digitally as well, for convenience? While I feel it would be an oversight not to allow this, I also realise it'd be hard to implement, since a digital copy on top of the retail copy would technically mean you own two copies - allowing you to sell the retail one. If there was some way for them to deactivate the cart once you went digital with it (I have no idea how that would work. I'm just being hopeful) for this to work, that would be awesome =D!

Thoughts?

Retail is probably my first choice,as it's the eaisiest to use,and Digital is good too,but takes up space.

I think a Retail+Digital would be a bad idea because of what you said(selling retail keeping digital) so Nintendo probably won't do it.

Yeah, if I had to choose, I'd still go retail. And yeah, if you just simply got retail as well as a code, that wouldn't work. But I really hope Nintendo finds some way to make retail carts so you can alternate between digital or physical...but when one is activated, the other isn't...perhaps the cart would have a software controlled on-off switch, and you can transfer the carts contents to your SD card, locked to your 3DS' hardware so the SD can't play it on other carts, which then renders the cart useless? Then when you want, you can remove the SD cards contents and reactivate the cart. Of course, the two processes would require the game to be inserted at the time. That probably didn't even make sense. I'm going to remain hopeful. =D

I don't like having so many carts with me - if I lose the game holder which holds my carts, then it's all gone...but if I have it digitally, then at least a new 3DS logged into my account will still have my games intact.
