Earlier this year, Hyperkin announced its plans to launch the RetroN 5--a console capable of playing cartridges from ten different retro consoles in one package. Today, the company has formally revealed a December 10 release date, as well as a price point of $99 in North America and €89.99 in Europe. The list of compatible cartridges includes NES, Famicom, Super NES, Super Famicom, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Sega Mega Drive, Game Boy, Game Boy Color and GBA.

On the negative side, those keeping tabs on the RetroN 5 will note the December 10 release date is actually a delay. Apparently, the setback was due to changes in the console's design. "The shell design was changed to allow for better ventilation, as well as accommodations to use the Sega Power Base Converter allowing users to play Master System cartridges on the console," reads a press release from Hyperkin.

You'll need to bring your own Power Base Converter, though, as the RetroN 5 doesn't include one. The console will, however, include a power adapter to make the RetroN 5 compatible in multiple regions. Maybe it's time to put away all those cherished consoles for safe keeping and embrace the power of convenience. Too bad the RetroN 5 doesn't appear to accept Nintendo 64 cartridges.

always good to keep the old school gaming in mind.

This is a good deal for people with a lot of old game cartridges.

But,  the $99 Ouya. and the cheaper $79 Gamestick which supports emulators for older consoles maybe a better deal for someone who wants to play older games on the TV without the need to hook up a laptop, and PC with emulaters to TV, and buy a seperate controller for PC.

Plus, the Ouya, and Gamestick can play newer games and Android apps as well.
