Reuters has just reported that BlackBerry could come out with a phone loaded with -- wait for it -- the Android operating system later this year. Sources told the news outlet that this doesn't mean the end of BlackBerry 10, but it is a big move that signifies the Waterloo company's dwindling sales. Reuters also reports that one of the reasons for the move is that BlackBerry CEO John Chen is putting its bets on a device management system called BES12, which gives companies the ability to manage not just BlackBerry phones but also Android, iOS and Windows devices on their internal networks.

Putting Android maybe a good idea for Blackberry.

So what would be the point of it?

Blackberry can use the Google Play App store with more games and apps than Blackberry World, and the Amazon App store if they installed the official version of Google Android on their smartphone.

But, there is not much of a point since Blackberry 10 OS can already run many Google Android Apps with its built-in emulator, and it can install Android apps from the Amazon Android App store.

Installing Android can damage Blackberry's reputation if the latest version of Android like Android 5.1 Lollipop has performance and security problems.

This won't happen. I can guarantee it. They would rather sell the company before they used another OS on a Blackberry device.
Blackberry maybe working with  Android phone makers like Samsung to help make a smartphone with Blackberry's Android Apps like BBM which comes bundled with an Android smartphone.

Samsung release a Galaxy S tablet which uses Blackberry owned  Secusmart security software to make the tablet more secure, and suitable for use for government and corporate communications.

I think they might be making a smart move it they use Android and then customise it to meet with their own operating system somewhat, including built in BBM apps. Their smartphones would likely be more popular.

Well, R.I.P. Blackberry. Once they abandon their OS in favor of other operating systems, it will be the downfall of the company. If you read the Crackberry forums, you will see that their loyal customers are very unhappy with this decision because of a certain elitism that Blackberry users have always had. They hate Android because it's too commercial. Good luck trying to sell Android-based Blackberry phones on a market that is over-saturated with Android phones, and good luck keeping your loyal customers by abandoning their favorite operating system.

I agree most serious Blackberry fans would not buy a Blackberry phone with Android on it. A lot of users who use Blackberry because it is simpler to use, and they don't have to worry about sharing their information with Google, and other third-party companies when they use a Blackberry device.

I think Blackberry will have a difficult time selling a lot of Android phones as well because most people who buy an Android phone buy a phone made by Samsung, LG, Motorola, and other more popular Android brands, and there are other more affordable brands like Huawei, and ZTE which make phones which are pretty good for their price.

But, BB may sell enough Android phones to be more profitable from the extra sales of Android phones where they earn more money to hire more software programmers to improve Blackberry 10, BBM, and other BB products.
