Review writing can be a complicated art. You want to make sure people understand your point of view easily and also want to make sure you cover all areas of a game. This topic is here to help you write a good looking review!

What Reviews Can I Write?
Unlike game guides, reviews are straightforward. However, that doesn't mean they aren't flexible. In general, you can write two kinds of reviews:
  • Full game reviews
  • Add-on content reviews
There isn't much choice but that's because when people read reviews, it's because they want to know your experience with the game/content and whether it's worth them investigating further.

How Do I Structure It?
As each member is different, there's no set way, but here's a good example:
  • Introduction to your review
  • Overview of the game's story
  • Gameplay
  • Controls
  • Music / Sound
  • Graphics (Optional)
  • Other Game Modes (Optional)
  • Any other add-on content (Optional)
  • Total score
You ARE required to score it, from 0 to 10, 10 being the best. An example is 8.5 out of 10.

Make sure to specify other details such as the console it's on (in the case of games on multiple consoles).

Don't be frightened to use pictures or screenshots! If you do, upload them to the Nintendo 3DS Community to avoid the possibility of having broken images!

What Should I Avoid?
Anything that isn't a review, basically. That said, there are also some general things you should consider for a good review:
  • Don't make it biased. Be honest about it. Tell us what things disappointed you
  • Don't be brief. Explain your thoughts. Why did you like something? Why didn't you like something? Explain your reasoning!
  • Formatting! Make your review easy on the eyes. Use headings, space out text, and place pictures appropriately
  • Don't be too opinionated. Opinions are great, but don't call a game terrible because they left out a character you liked. Have valid reasons behind your judgements
  • Avoid spoilers! Most people will read reviews to see if they will like it. If you must include one, make sure you hide it with a spoiler tag.

What Should The Topic Title Be?
The topic title should simply be the game you are reviewing and the score you have given it, e.g.:

New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 8/10

People will know what game you're reviewing and what score you have given it. You may also add the console it's for via abbreviations, e.g.:

New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 3DS - 8/10

Other abbreviations include:
  • Wii - Nintendo Wii
  • DS - Nintendo DS
  • GCN - GameCube Nintendo
  • N64 - Nintendo 64
  • 360 - Xbox 360
  • PS3 - PlayStation 3
  • PSV - PlayStation Vita
These abbreviations aren't required in your topic title but if you think you will benefit by using them, then by all means do so.

I'm A Member Reading A Review: What About Me?
If you're reading a review, you're more than welcome to ask questions or give feedback!

If you disagree with something, do so politely. Everyone has their own opinions, and at the end of the day, that's that. Don't go arguing to prove a point!

That's all there is to review writing. If you have questions, send me a PM and I'll update this topic accordingly!
