This little chap might not look much, but within lurks a super-fast, super-efficient SSD. Samsung's latest PCIe flash drive can move data at up to 2.15GB per second—and only draws 2 milliwatts of power while in standby.

The 512GB drive has been designed so that all of its high-speed circuitry can be switched off while it rests, making it far more efficient than most comparable flash storage devices. In fact, it's a 97 percent reduction over previous standby states.

Crazy, how fast SSD has gotten, and how small they become. The power savings are nice as well. My guest is that future Samsung tablets, and laptops will come with this drive.

The SM951 is now in production and could be/should be appearing in notebook or desktop systems later this year. ®

The price is not mention in the article, and it was not mention that it will be for sale as a standalone drive to sell to people who just want to buy the drive, and install it on their laptop or desktop PC.

Most likely, if you want to buy the drive, you need to buy a Samsung or other brand of Laptop, Desktop, or Tablet with this drive installed in it.

My guest is this drive cost will be in the high hundreds of dollars to low thousands of dollars for 500 GBs or more of space.

That's pretty neat!
It pretty cool how much efficient it sounds, though I don't know if that's in general or just against other Samsung SSD.

I wonder if the efficiency can be maintained with larger storage space models.
