Samsung Electronics says that its latest breakthrough can make Wi-Fi up to five times faster than what we are using now.

Its 60GHz Wi-Fi technology allows for transmission speeds up to 575MB per second, which is 5 times faster than the current maximum speed possible, 108MB per second. According to Samsung, this speed allows for a 1GB movie to be transferred between devices in less than 3 seconds. Samsung also says that uncompressed high-definition videos can be streamed from mobile devices to TVs in real-time without any delay.

The latest breakthrough overcomes previous challenges inherent with 60GHz waves, which travel by line-of-sight and are affected by obstacles like walls, by utilizing a new antennae and eliminating co-channel interference.

Samsung hopes to commercialize the new Wi-Fi technology as early as next year, and expects to integrate it into medical devices, phones, and smart home appliances.

impressive.

It's too bad that my internet connection is still 10Mbps, or slower on bad days, so I can't really take advantage of these faster Wi-Fi speed because my ISP is still so slow.

I fear this may be ahead of its time, since I don't know if many can take advantage of those speeds.
I agree, it is probably ahead of its time like 4K TVs. This Wi-Fi would be good for people with Google Fiber, and similar fast internet connections.

I bet this new tech won't be cheap, so people who mainly use a desktop or laptop would be better off using a long wired networking cable to connect to the internet at full speed.
