Samsung figured out a clever way to keep its new Galaxy S7 smartphone cool.

Normally, phones let heat dissipate naturally, but the S7 has some of the latest, fastest, and most powerful specs in a smartphone, and all that horsepower means more heat than usual. To prevent overheating, Samsung added a liquid cooling system to the Galaxy S7.

During the S7's announcement at MWC, Samsung's senior vice president of product strategy Justin Denison described the liquid cooling system as "air conditioning for your phone."

"There's a tube containing a liquid that vaporizes at high temperatures and then condenses at low temperatures," he explained.

The liquid absorbs heat from the S7's processor where it is vaporized. The vapor containing the heat moves through the tube away from the source of the heat and condenses back into a liquid where the heat is dispersed.

It's a seemingly drastic measure, but keeping important components like the processor cool can greatly extend the lifespan of your device. Too much heat can damage components permanently.

The iPhone will actually switch itself off automatically if it detects that it's close to overheating to protect the components inside.

It looks like a pretty impressive phone. Samsung really wanted to innovate this time considering that most of the reviews for Samsung Galaxy S6 mentioned that the phone didn't bring anything new to the table.

Liquid cooling does sound nice, but I am worried about the cooling liquid leaking out, and damaging the phone.

Sounds cool, I guess. I had the S3 which I got around the time when the S4 launched, so the price of the S3 had dropped enough to actually be affordable. It was good phone and worked perfectly for about a year, but then I kept having trouble with it charging and keeping the charge due to an issue with the charging port. Ended up going through 3 replacement phones (covered under an extended warranty) due to the charger ports breaking. I found out later a lot of people were having the same issue with the phone.

When it was time to upgrade, I considered the S5 (this was just as the S6 was released) but saw some pretty bad reviews with people having trouble with the S5 due to software upgrades so I decided to pass on getting another Galaxy. I can only imagine how much the S7 will cost when it is released.

Is this the first phone for liquid cooling? If so kudos to Samsung and I hope it really works. I noticed with my Note 4 it easily gets hot and I know thats not good for my SD card.
