well the debate forum looks dead so here is a new topic. well school started so I though I make a school debate. what do you think of schools having uniforms?

Well, that's a toughie:

Pros: Curbs violence, gang activity, bullying(lol), creates equality

Cons: They're usually not good looking, impractical, expensive, and are just a way to help create a 'educational communism', where everyone's the same, and there's nothing they can do about it (and if they do, they're unfairly punished)

your pros are cons in my opinion

violence will always be the same...the kids will rebel against the uniform

gang activity...is always there...certain gangs will try to make altercations to the uniform

bullying is there cause the "tough" people will still try to be all big and bad

equality is a con because our individuality is what makes us who we are

Yeah uniforms are dumb, we don't buy clothes for nothing you know, plus it shows of our personality when there are no uniforms. So all in all uniforms are not worth it, nothing changes, and you lose your individualality.

Touche, look at my 'cons' though: a 'educational communism', where everyone's the same, and there's nothing they can do about it (and if they do, they're unfairly punished)

Anyone who does try stuff like that will be punished. And hard.

but the intention span of most teenagers is so short and shallow that, that certain factor will pass over them and they would still do it

Well, that's true, but increasing types of punishments; [Warning>Detention>Multiple Detentions>Saturday School>OSS>Expulsion]

could work.

Expulsion is too extreme...the parents would freak over something stupid

It's gradual, I think that if they can't get their kid(s) under control, that's their problem, not the taxpayers'.

being forced to wear them and look the same at school takes alot out of the growing up experience. sometimes you have to get teased or picked on while growing up, it helps with the growing process;; and preparing you for the real world ... think HS is/was tough; just wait til the work force, where the competition isn't about popularity, it's about money, and who gets it..

We never had to wear school uniforms and at this point, Nathan doesn't either. That being said, I'm all for them. Having a uniform at school is nothing different than people having to wear uniforms at work. I mean, it's part of adult life. Being an individual isn't just about the clothes you wear. Yes clothing is a way to express yourself, but there are times outside of school for that.

I don't think uniforms will get rid of school violence, but it may help with some of the distractions. Hell, I remember wearing a ultra shiny silver skirt and matching jacket to school in 9th grade and everyone had something to say about it. Talk about a distraction...lol. Anyway, if Nathan's school ever has a vote about it, I will be voting for them.

... wow, just... wow. PETA ftw(inside joke, shadow got it)?

Well, I have to say Im against it... think about this. sure it wont stop violence, but a desent dress code would work the same, yet allowing people to express themselves... as Ive got a few odd... shirts
