The second season of animated spinoff "Velma" is now streaming on Max, and it sounds like Velma and the "Scooby-Doo" gang may also be headed back into the world of live action.

Variety reports this afternoon that Netflix is planning a live action "Scooby-Doo" television series, with the streamer actively "nearing a deal" with Warner Bros. Television.

The series is being described in Variety's report as a "one-hour drama project," with Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg attached to write and executive produce.

Executive producers on the upcoming "Scooby-Doo" Netflix series also include André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner for Midnight Radio, with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman executive producing through Berlanti Productions. Varierty's report continues, "Jonathan Gabay of Berlanti Productions and Adrienne Erickson will co-executive produce."

"Scooby-Doo" has mostly been an animated series over the years, but there were two live action movies in 2002 and 2004: Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.

The live action cast for those two films included Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, Freddie Prinze Jr. as Fred, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne, and Linda Cardellini as Velma.

I mean after making fun of their viewer base, they could at least grow their live-action series based on their previous material. However, I know there are limitations, like making Shaggy less into food as a visual gag. I wouldn't be surprised if Scooby and Shaggy still did the cross-dressing for the modern generation. Maybe the monsters would be more threatening and real. I want their material to be more grounded but still make their discoveries be led by their brains and modern science to explain the mystery.

The Fan Project one was pretty good Netflix should hire them.

Hopefully, the Scooby Doo live action series will be good. I enjoy watching the Scooby Doo cartoon series.

the Scooby gang will include Mckenna Grace (The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, Regretting You) as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen (The Pitt, Dark Light) as Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson (Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret; Carousel) as Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins (Lost in Space, The Bondsman) as Fred Jones. Alongside their very special dog, the team will crack haunting cases, but in this iteration, fans will get to see where Mystery Inc. got started.

The series, which explores how the teens first teamed up, follows old friends Shaggy and Daphne during their final summer at camp. The two get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder. With help from the pragmatic and scientific townie Velma and the strange but ever-so-handsome new kid Freddy, they set out to solve the case that’s pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.
