Their Sega Mega Drive Classics Hub lets you share mods of your favourite games, like Sonic the Hedgehog, Toejam and Earl, Ecco the Dolphin etc:

Pretty fantastic I must say. Now all we need is Nintendo to do something similar for Mario, Zelda and Pokemon ROM hacks!

Not very likely Nintendo opens to do something like this, but man, would taht help them if they could only see the benefits of embracing the mods instead of fighting them with no alternatives for the fans.

The difference between this and what Nintendo disapproves of is that you still have to pay for the Genesis games here. I can't see Nintendo supporting anything similar to this ever though, even if they do eventually release their games on PC.

So, why can't they make it so you have to pay to run the mods on consoles? Seems like that'd take care if the money thing, buy a Virtual Console version, then get the ability to play ROM hacks of the game by moving the IPS/BPS file to the system via an SD card.

It could even come with a neat UI that lets you patch the game, then restore to a backup if you want to try a different patch or ten.

Hm, yes, well, the answer to that question would be...
