Yes I know but it is mainly used in Windows. Microsoft introduced SMB 2/3 and it is used with their OS.

Thanks for the tutorial on using SMB with Kodi. SMB looks useful for using to access video files on cheaper Windows Kodi computers which can't store many files because the computer only came with 32GB of space.
