I'm seeing a lot of articles of late, websites urging anyone who is buying a gift console to get it updated before it is given on Christmas day, the main reason being that the console's or that game's update servers will without a doubt be slammed (or more sadly DDoS) on the big gift day.

Would you do this? It kind of ruins the gift getting it done ahead of time.

Would you be able to put it up and update it while they are not looking? My probably would be able to. He's good at surprises.

Well, my hubby and I live together but it probably wouldn't be that hard for him. He'd probably just wait until I went to sleep for the night and then set up the console while I was sleeping and then come back to bed.

My hubby has always let me open it first and then set it up.

I did the same thing when I purchased him the X-box 360. I wasn't sure how I was going to set it up in the first place because I didn't know where he'd want it set up anyway. So, I just let him set it up himself when he got it opened. That just seems easier with him.

I feel I probably would not setup a console ahead of time because it may ruin the experience of opening the box.

Some people also like recording themselves unboxing their consoles and other stuff, and posting their unboxing videos to YouTube and other sites, so opening their box may make them upset because they can no longer record themselves opening a new console box.

I'd heard that people like to record themselves unboxing different things and put it on Youtube, but I had completely forgotten that people do that. It slipped my mind. I, myself, would rather have it set up so that I could begin playing it as soon as I realized what the present was. I'm usually anxious to play while my hubby is setting up the console for me.

I'm rather boring when unboxing things.
