More bad news from the business world today, as yet another small studio has been closed. Kotaku reports that Activision has shuttered Shaba Games, the studio behind last year's Spider-Man: Web of Shadows. The anonymous sources estimate that about 30 employees altogether were laid off, and the studio had been around for 12 years. The studio was less well-known for its work on Tony Hawk ports and Shrek Super Slam.

Activision issued a statement, saying the move was made during an evaluation of which studios are "properly matched to our product slate and overall strategic goals. ... We are grateful for the studio's contributions and wish this talented team success in their future endeavors." Similar cuts were reportedly made to 7 Studios yesterday, probably as part of the same strategic decision. Like Shaba Games, 7 Studios focused mostly on licensed titles, and Activision seems to be doing some serious trimming in that area now. Let's hope all the employees affected land on their feet soon.
