Anyone here got any good tips for shopping for a used car? I've been looking at online sites and not sure if I bring myself to purchase something without first driving before putting money down on it.

You would need to see the car at first look and do driving tests yes. With any cars that you buy look at history and do your research before buying. Also when buying that your MOT has a year or more otherwise you paying double for road tax.

End of the day get the car from a real approval dealership

Test driving a used car, and taking the car to an independant licensed car mechanic to make sure the car is in good working condition before agreeing to buy it can reduce the chance of buying a car with less noticeable problems during the test drive.

Americans don’t have MOT like the Brits do.

You could look at Carvana, they deliver and offer 7 day money back guarantee if you don’t like the car for whatever reason.

True but you Americans do have the same system, like road tax and whatnot that we do over here that is a different name right?

So we have a vehicle registration sticker that you buy annually. You also have to buy a license plate when you get a car, but temporary plates are given when you get a new car. The car dealer sends you the registration paperwork via mail, so you can take that to the DMV to buy the license plates.

We have zero equivalence of MOT.

Just make sure to physically see it and potentially get it checked out by someone who knows things about cars before making a decision. I'm going to be looking forward to doing it soon as well!

I have looked at them, I can't drop that much money or give up my current car without looking and testing out the newer car.

You can’t afford monthly payments? Are you trying to pay straight cash?

I wish I could do that, maybe next time. I will be doing monthly payments, but I'm saying i don't want to put any money down or release my current car without seeing the new one in person and then examined by a local mechanic.

They deliver to you, and I mentioned earlier that they have a 7 day money back guarantee if you don't like it for whatever reason. So you can see it in person, test drive it, and have it examined by a mechanic.

So unless 7 days isn't enough for you, or you have some weird anxiety issues, I don't see how that doesn't fit what you're trying to do.

On top of strong mixed reviews of people having trouble getting a hold of them when there is issues. Plus I like to haggle a bit.

Sounds like shopping online isn’t going to work for you. Just go in person and haggle there.

Tbh sometimes I find mixed online reviews to be... mixed. There’ll be a service/store me and several people irl use and have had zero issues, but you go online and it seems like everyone and their mother has been physically harassed. You do what you want, but all the customers I know IRL had zero issues with customer support.

I guess just check listings online and price check with Kelly Blue Book, then go in person to do all that in person jazz. Or hit up Craigslist ads.

So your choices are:
Craigslist
Carvanna
Old school

remember to buy insurance :p that at times can cost far more than the car. Well it does in the UK

same in the UK, you got to have insurance

I may not know much about car buying.. but I do know that credit scores are a big thing to have. Its like added credits to your 'gameplay'. hahah, i'm messin @Demon_Skeith, good luck on your car buying man
