Should a social network without PM features be created?

There has been an idea circulating around lately about creating a social network that lacks a PM feature. It should only have public means of posting.

The point of it would be to allow people in prison access to it so that they can have a means of online interaction without the risk of communicating in private.

A public social network sounds similar to a blog website which is setup to only post public posts, and all comments are also publicly view-able.

I feel prisoners who have access to an internet connection on a device would find a way to privately communicate somehow.

I believe blogs have a PM feature as well.

That's really good though but people in prison are not actually the kind of people, who would wanna socialize. Well, I can't help it when we are dealing with criminals here.

I believe blogs have a PM feature as well.

I think PM systems are not built-into WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, and other blogging software which you install onto your web server.

You would need to install a third-party plug-in or mod to add PM to most Blog and website software.

A lot of bloggers mostly use E-mail and social networking services like Facebook, Twitter to talk to other bloggers, and readers, so PM is also less useful for a blog.

There are also many blogs where there is only one owner who just post content on a blog for readers to publicly comment on, or have comments disabled because of trolling, spam, or lack of activity.

But, there are PM features for some non-self-hosted blogs like Blogspot because they more like social networks than blogs. Plus, Blogspot is part of Google, so Google connected Google Plus and Hangouts to Blogspot to give it PM features.

In the case of prisoners, I don't think they should have internet or social network access regardless of whether a system was built without PM's. Regarding current social networks, you can turn PM's off as far as I am aware if you don't want to receive any so I don't think there is really a point in it.

I feel having a social network or any type of website for prisoners to post publicly on can put prison guards who work in prisons in danger.

Prisoners may publicly post the names, home address and phone numbers of prison guards to make it easier for other criminals to seek revenge on when the guards are at home where guards may not have a weapon or their co-workers guards to protect themselves from criminals who want to seek revenge when the guards are not working.

It is sometimes not too hard to find the names, home addresses, and phone numbers of strangers if you know where to look like the trash can, or you calmly talk to people where they accidentally reveal their information because they trust you.

So you're saying that even if a none PM blog is made, an app could be made to give it PM features?

I don't get what you're trying to say... We're talking about social networks coded from scratch, not about blogs...

Prisoners can always hack into the code, database to install a PM system, or use free third-party database services to create a secret PM system on a website which is hard for the prison to detect, or read on the site because the database is not hosted on their server.

It is possible to turn a blog into a social network. A lot of blogging platforms like Tumblr, and Wordpress.com are now more similar to social networks.

If a prisoner can hack a well-coded app with only the use of a smartphone while not having access to any website or search engine and with limited internet hours, that person doesn't belong in prison. They need to be hired by Google or Apple.

There is always a chance that the website's creator who coded the website secretly added a secret PM feature to help out their friends who are in prison send PMs to other prisoners, or even send messages out of the websites to people's e-mail accounts, and smartphone text boxes.

There are also very smart people who have long prison sentences, so they may eventually hack into the code, and add a PM system to a social network without one.

So, it's not a good idea at all judging by all the above posts.
I hope they don't develop such a thing.
I agree its silly having it, you can always tweet people private if that is an cool option and profiles can set to private if that's what people want. Other then that it's probably won't even gets used as a private message
