Rather than just Bowser all the time?

I kind of long for the days when it wasn't all 'Bowser has to be the main villain of all Mario games'. Super Mario Bros 2 had Wart, Super Mario Land Tatanga, Super Mario Land 2 had Wario.

Should we have more 2D/3D platformers where Bowser isn't the main bad guy?

I don't think so. I mean Bowser is the main villian. He wants Peach for some reason and I can't see why they would change that. I mean it's cool they change it for Mario Land games and Mario rpg style games, but still. I think Bowser should remain. I mean as long as fighting Bowser stays fresh. I could see what you mean by this topic if the Mario only killed Bowser by getting past him and taking an axe from behind him throwing him into a pit of lava for the past twenty-whatever years.

I think Bowser should become a minor villain

Good question!

I agree with this answer, partly because Super Mario Land featured Tatanga, and that wasn't a bad game at all. Still, if Bowser was missing, say, from the next 3 Super Mario games, something would be amiss, no pun intended.

Yes and no. I think Super Mario bros. should be Bowser. I think they should have Super Mario Land with different enemies.

I don't really think it matters. Super Mario is at least a series with some change, while games like Call of Duty only has new guns. Still millions of people buy all the new ones..

Bowser wouldn't be absent for three games. Heck, does he have to be absent if there's a new villain? I mean, he was effective in the Mario RPGs despite being made useless by the new bad guys...

Not really relevant. Although if you're being picky, Call of Duty does have different villains every now and again...

Of course not, and I didn't say he has to be missing. My point is, if Bowser is not the main villain in a future Super Mario game, I'd want that to be the exception rather than that becoming the rule...

Ahhh, but Mario RPGs are a whole different kettle of fish...
