These competitive eating contest most likely create a lot of jobs since I bet a lot of tourists buy plane tickets, rent cars, and hotel rooms to watch these contests. The hot dog company also makes a lot of hot dogs for these contests, and the watchers will buy the hot dogs at the food store the next time they go to food stores because they are aware of the hot dog brand sponsoring the event.
In a way, there could be less hunger in towns which make hot dogs because workers earn money making hot dogs to buy food with their pay check from the Hot Dog company.
Bingo.
This man has an excellent point and is right on target. Take it from me, someone who lives near a waterfront community that has been heavily affected by Hurricane Sandy. My area got hit with flooding, although it wasn't as bad as areas directly south and west of me, which is exactly where Coney Island is. Hurricane Sandy eviscerated Coney Island. Nathan's which is usually open all year, but 24/7 once the amusement parks are open for Summer, was closed until Memorial Day. Actually no, I think they ended up opening a week after that.
The only Nathans that was open, was the small location on the boardwalk, and that opened on Easter Sunday and closed at 8 p.m. each day, while the flagship store remained closed. My husband and I worried that Nathan's and even Coney Island itself, wouldnt be able to open for the Summer. Nathan's also employs a lot of teens as well and giving them Summer jobs will help keep them out of trouble.
The contest does provide additional jobs and much needed tourism to the area as well. And this has been a good thing because this area really needed some revitalization after both the hurricane and subsequent looting and also the fact that most of the park has been in a stalemate between the City and the dumb ass billionaire who held the entire area hostage because, despite NYC and NYS gambling and zoning laws, he was determined to close the park and put up casinos and an indoor water park instead.
Who the hell would put up an indoor water park, when the ocean is right there?!
The competition is good business for the area, the Nathan's brand, neighboring business and even the people itself. It is definitely a good sign for recovery since, many businesses have not yet reopened, or remained closed as their insurance did not cover the damages adequately, or at all.
