I haven't used an official version of Windows Disk Defrag since Windows XP. I like Auslogic Disk Defrag more than Windows Disk Defrag since it has more settings to tell Auslogic Disk Defrag to move system/windows files to the beginning of the drive, and to optimize the drive. Plus, Auslogic Disk Defrag seems more user friendly, and faster than the default Windows Disk Defrag. I can also set Auslogic to automatically shutdown my PC after disk defrag is done to save power.

Also, slowly disk defrag software won't be needed for many computer types like tablets, ultrabooks, highend computers, and cheap netbooks which use small sized SSD because Solid State Drives, or Hybrid SSD drives don't need to be defragged, and defraging a SSD hard drive won't increase the performance, and will shorten its life since a SSD has a limited amount of file writes/saves before it goes bad.

No. In fact, they should have been making that software better.

Windows should have had it's own Registry fixer as well. It's the least they could do, after all, who in the f#%$ would know better about a windows registry than the company who invented it in the first place?

Since they can't seem to improve their software better than free fan made versions, I say yes and work on other stuff.

I agree, most of Microsoft official disk cleanup, disk defrag, Internet Exporer, Windows Explorer, Windows Defender found in XP-7, etc are not really good, and MS might as well spend more time on the Windows user interface, Xbox, Hotmail/Outlook,and other things they own.

I mostly use the free versions CCleaner, BleachBit, and Smart Defrag since they seem easier and faster to use. Plus, the theme look better on free software than Windows software which is just a Window with a few buttons, and text like Internet Explorer.

Paid software like TuneUp Utilities, and Iobit's Advance SystemCare Pro 6.1 also does a great job as well.

I wish MS at least made an uninstaller to remove Disk Defrag, Disk Cleanup, and other software which many people never use because of better alternatives which are free or affordable.

Just more examples of Microsoft being more interested in trying new things then they are in fixing the $#!t which is already broken. Windows has been using the same notepad application for about 16 years.

Yeah, third party software to do basic shit is like buying pieces of your OS from different random companies. It's just ridiculous. I could download an OpenSUSE or Debian Linux disk right now and get about 3 times as much shit as I need than what windows offers right now, and those OSs are free.

You would expect disk defrag utilities AT THE VERY LEAST for an OS you're paying for. Getting rid of utilities and having to get them from a third party is like Windows getting rid of it;s start menu and having to download a new one from a third party! ... Wait...

The Windows Disk Defrag software in Windows XP was not made by Microsoft, but licensed to Microsoft from Diskeeper/Executive software which now goes by http://www.condusiv....ucts/diskeeper/

The Disk Defrag in Windows 98 was also provided by Symantec/Norton via a licensing deal between MS and Symantec.

All versions of Microsoft Windows include a tool for disk defragmentation. The Windows Disk Defragmenter tool is a limited version of the Diskeeper program from Diskeeper Corporation. Disk Defragmenter does not include all the features available in the full version of Diskeeper.

I think the version of Disk Defrag in Vista-8 is made by a different company or Microsoft since it does not seem as good as Diskeeper disk defrag because it seem slower, and does not have the progress graph. It also has the characteristics of MS made software like Paint, Notepad, Disk Cleanup, etc which have plain themes, and very few features.

Many people could just search, and buy a disk defrag program from a stores like Bestbuy, Amazon, and Newegg, or use download sites like Download.com owned by CBS/Cnet, and other download sites where there are moderators who remove bad programs with viruses. The user reviews are also helpful for finding out if a program is good or not.

Google also quickly removes websites which has viruses, and malware in a few days from its search engine index. Most of the top results for disk defrag is by Auslogic, Wikipedia, Microsoft and Iobit which are all real companies.

As Windows 8 becomes more popular, most people will use the Windows 8 App Store which list safe software which people submit to be approve in the Windows 8 App store which has both Touchscreen apps, and list desktop programs like Auslogic Disk Defrag and other safe disk defrag software which are made by real system utility companies.
