What are if there are, any signs that a router is going bad?

For the past week I've noticed that my speeds aren't as good and my bar on the laptop for the wifi drop by one. My router has to be 3 years old if not older, is it time to get a new one?

Has it been raining for the past week since I read on forums that rain can make wifi slower and less reliable according to http://wi-fi.tribe.net/thread/a9e2aaf2-cdb4-43bf-a0f2-e53ea3e891ac

Usually when a wireless router fails, the wireless disconnects at random times, and you need to unplug and replug your router from the wall's power to turn the wireless signal back on, or wireless can't be turned back on again because the router is dead.

A microwave, baby monitor, cordless phone, and other electronics could also make your wifi worse because they all may use the same 2.4GHz channel.

You can try changing the channel of your Wireless signal to 1, or another number. Sometimes unplugging your router for a few seconds from the wall's power, and replugging it back in can help fix your connection. Moving the router closer to your laptop may help.

It could be your laptop wifi card not working well with your wireless router. Sometimes using an external USB wireless adapters with a better antennae can make your wifi better.

If your other wireless devices like game consoles, tablets, smartphones, and handheld consoles have faster wireless speeds, than it may be your laptops wireless card not working well with your router, or the Wifi card is not very good.

Switching to the High Performance Power plan in Windows 7 may improve your Wi-Fi, and computer performance.

If you have an Android phone, tablet, or other device with wifi, you can install the Speedtest.net app from Google Play at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.zwanoo.android.speedtest , and see if it is your location, or your laptop which is causing higher pings if your phone or tablet has lower or higher pings.
