Sleeping Dogs Developer Making a Free-to-Play Game

United Front Games, the studio behind Sleeping Dogs, is working with Nexon America on a free-to-play game that's expected to release in 2015.

Nexon America will publish the free-to-play game from United Front Games, which also has worked on ModNation Racers and Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition. "Nexon brings an unparalleled wealth of knowledge of the growing free-to-play market," said Stephen van der Mescht, chief executive officer of United Front Games. "We are thrilled to partner with a publisher who has an excellent track record of building direct and meaningful relationships with players."

No other details were disclosed about the free-to-play game, as Nexon America and United Front Games have yet to reveal a title or even genre for the 2015 game. That said, United Front Games is also working on a Sleeping Dogs universe-inspired sequel called Triad Wars with Square Enix.

This free to play stuff drives me nuts man! Why do they always have to develop one? Oh I see, it's Nexon who is publishing it. Well, it's to be expected. I am not expecting anything good to be honest. Let's see if it's going to be worth our time or not.
 
I enjoyed Sleeping Dogs gameplay but I do not really like free-to-play games. Most of them translate to 'pay-to-win' actually, because the system makes the game a lot easier for those who pay. These games are doing nothing except causing economic disparity among gamers. 'Free' isn't free after all.

That is a bumer to hear :( But does not surprise me, I mean they need to make money some how right?
 
Usually free-to-play games like that end up being even more expensive because if you get hooked and you want to be able to compete with others you'll end up spending a lot of money. However, there are other free-to-play games that only charge for cosmetics... I hope that's the case and if not I hope the gap won't be too big between those who pay and those who do not. That seems to be the biggest downfal of ftp games, as you guys said they end up being p2w, which I hate.
 
They've been amazing with actually recognizing what fans want with Sleeping Dogs. Post launch support was phenomenal. I hope they follow a good f2p model. Nothing p2w.
 
Yeah those free-to-play games end up not being free at all if you want to play seriously. I'm not really into them much since you will have to end up paying if you want a full experience of the game. I heard alot of good reviews about Sleeping Dogs though. Does the platform work on xbox360?
 
 I hope it doesn't have anything to do with Triad Wars. Most likely it will be just another cash grab thus a pay to win game with a pretty horrible community. Then again those are problems that all free to play games pose.
 
IS there anymore info about what the game is going to be like, are they going to make an open world sandbox, or more of an mmo
