With a worldwide cume of $141 million and counting after just two weeks in release, it should come as no surprise that Sony has announced a sequel to The Smurfs.
The studio informed IGN that The Smurfs 2 is slated for release August 2, 2013. No word yet on which cast members or creative personnel will return (producer Jordan Kerner is set) for the 3D live-action/CG animation hybrid based on the longtime cartoon, toy and comic strip franchise.
