It's apparently some Pokemon app thing aimed at class rooms, with licenses being hundreds of dollars and the gameplay being a mix of typing 'game' and various mini games.

Personally, I have to wonder why they're bothering. Spend the time and money on actual games Nintendo, ones that normal people can afford and not on silly apps for educational use. Those dollars... okay, yen spend on developing this could be put towards a much more mainstream and interesting title, in this case either a decent Pokemon spinoff (hello Pokemon Snap 2 or Stadium X and Y edition!) or just the next big Pokemon game in general. I mean, we all know a Pokemon Z or X and Y sequel is coming, why not get all employees working on that at Game Freak/Pokemon Company?

But what do you think of their odd move into making apps for classrooms?

This is quite strange and I really don't see why they would do this. Maybe they're trying to bring in a little extra money, but I doubt it will do anything they're hoping for it.

Yeah I don't seem the point either. Only in Japan would they be ever released so I'm not that disappointed that it's not being used on something else or brought here. My question though is, why the iPad!?

Because apple has swag. Nah, I really do think that they developed it for the ipad because apple is what most young people seem to connect with and like. I myself prefer android though.

You do have a point. I prefer a Windows Tablet :p much more simpler for me. But yeah, they would definitely try to go for the biggest audience they could possibly can. Most likely they would just milk everything from the app from in-app purchases like more mini games or "levels". Just like the Pokedex . . . :(

Also, I don't see how can this be educational at all spelling Pocket Monsters. :P

Well, this is interesting. I didn't know Nintendo would actually make an app for iPad.

I would still prefer a Windows tablet computer instead.

It is a way for them to make even more money. With careful enough advertising, and actually engaging play, the hope is to lure schools to buy a lot of licenses.

On a side note, the picture appears that the content is displayed on the iPad's web browser. So, it could probably be used on any electronic device with a capable web browser.
