That's a depressing indication of how poorly the industry is doing recently, when you consider all the big games which sold about ten to twenty times that on one system.
Here's the official statement:
Since the start of 2013, WBIE has sold 1.6m LEGO games. LEGO is currently the second biggest game franchise in 2014 year-to-date, in terms of units sold, with 420,200 units. Another strong week could see the LEGO game franchise take the number one franchise spot.
Sorry, but what?
Let me give some context here. Luigi's Mansion 2 sold about 4 million copies in 2013 alone. Mario & Luigi Dream Team and Paper Mario Sticker Star sold around 2 million copies a piece (and Mario RPGs are not mainstream). Zelda sells 3 million copies a game at minimum. Pokemon (the last two gens) sold more than that in just TWO DAYS.
You might be a tad naive if you call this a 'big' franchise. Seriously, you might as well say the Wario series is the most popular series ever on this logic. After all, those games sell about what you claim your Lego games do...
But yeah, just food for thought. Lego may be doing greatly well in building blocks and movies, but from the figures mentioned here, I strongly doubt it's doing so hot in the video game market...
