So when exactly did Zelda get seen as 'needing to be changed'?

Was it because of some part of Skyward Sword people didn't like? Because I don't really remember many people arguing about how the Legend of Zelda series should be massively changed around or rebooted or given to Retro Studios or whatever back in the days of Ocarina of Time/Wind Waker/Twilight Princess, and I never see those arguments about how Mario should be different.

What's with all the negativity towards the series recently?

Not really. Zelda Informer seems to complain about Zelda every two hours, people on sites like GameFAQs, VG Chartz, IGN and Zelda Universe seem to constantly complain about the series. I'm actually kind of happy this site's one where relatively few complaints are made about the series.

Well... Nin's right, there is a large amount of criticism being levelled (somewhat unjustly) at the LoZ series. I think it's because people have grown up, and it hasn't. All these people were kids playing the original, and were entranced by it's fairytale story. Now they've moved on and the series hasn't (understandably) so they feel hard-done-by.

I dunno, but almost every Zelda looks different, compared to other franchises.

I've noticed that A LOT....

Aren't all Zelda games unique and different in their own special ways? I mean, you could probably split them into two sections - top-down view and third-person view (poor Zelda II is left out, I guess) - yet each game has its own little gimmicks and changes to it. So I don't think a DRASTIC change to the series is necessary. I don't see what the problem is.
