What's Bowser and the Koopalings plan? I mean, the former's definitely captured Princess Peach (the description on the E3 page and press release make that clear), but it seems like the Koopalings have gone a bit gold crazy like Mario and co:

As you can see, Roy's holding a pretty big stack of gold coins in this artwork, and the way the Koopalings are posing makes me think they have some evil plan in mind...

And it seems almost certain that this whole 'gold' theme has something to do with Bowser, right?

So what do you think he wants from it? What kind of gold related powers is Bowser going to be using in the final battle? Is there something deeper to this whole game we haven't picked up on, given how much the money theme is emphasised in every way possible?

The Mushroom Kingdom economy sucks and Bowser took Peach this time to discuss a plan to fix it. Mario was not told of this plan at all and thinks Bowser's up to his old tricks again and goes after him. Then it turns out that it's a big misunderstanding, but Bowser becomes so furious at Marios reckless lash out that he calls off the meeting and trys to take over the Mushroom Kingdom again.

That or Bowser is greedy and wants all of the coins in the universe to create his empire... or it's neither of those and coin collecting is just for fun.

Yeah, I bet coin collecting is just for fun. You can't really create a story based on coinns... especially when most 2D Mario don't have a plot at all.

Maybe Bowser finally struck the jackpot and won all the coins in the mushroom kingdom. Because of this, coins are showing up everywhere and the Koopalings are sent out to retrieve them. Mario is unsatisfied with his lottery luck and wants to seek revenge towards Bowser by stealing all of the coins that Bowser won. Once Mario turns gold, it stands for every million coins that Mario has but Bowser doesn't have. And it's the best Mario adventure yet.
