What Thanko has delivered here is much more than your standard rechargeable iPhone battery case. This case offers all the usual benefits of extra juice (in a form factor compliant with Apple standards), but, in addition to plug-in charging, it can also be charged with built-in, fold-out solar panels that deliver a 22.4% peak efficiency rating. The solar panels are capable of fully charging the case in about 5 hours. All you need is access to that giant nuclear fireball in the sky.
Having a solar powered battery case seems useful for people who don't have access to a power outlet , and don't really use their phone much, so they can fully charge their phone in 5 hours.
The case also looks like it will offer good protection from drops.
It is possible to take off the case, and just have the case charge the case's battery which is built-into the battery case. But, you won't have the advantage of having a case to protect your iPhone because it is not covering your iPhone.
You can also use light from lightbulbs, flouresent lights, and LED bulbs like those scientific calculators where you can power it with light from lights at school, and home.
It will probably be better just to buy 2 cases, and have one charge for 5 hours while you use the other one to charge, and power your phone's battery.
You can also use a regular case or no case, and switch to a fully charged solar battery case when your phone is low on power.
They do sell daylight light bulbs which gives light as bright as normal sun light. Have them in my room and they are great and I guess would solar power just fine.
