Yep. Ive been writing poetry for school (where I started, write new poems occasionally, every few months maybe) for three years now. I have a few poems that have been published in books and won awards (cause Im so cool
)
Name Poem (6th grade, first published poem)
My name is George,
It is a Greek name.
People Make fun of it
So long I can understand why:
For it’s only a silly name.
I was named after my Grandpa,
A very good man.
All I have left is my name,
Now that he is gone.
As a name is a name,
I’d rather go by Michael:
My confirmation name it is.
Any name would work,
But George is the one for me.
Life Metaphor (7th grade, second published poem)
Life is a Baseball Game
Life is a Baseball game.
someone will lose,
yet someone always wins
it is essential that you try your hardest,
because you never know what will be thrown at you.
Balls can come from a lot of directions towards you,
How will you catch them is the question I ask.
in baseball, you need support,
and with support,
you can win the game.
Color Metaphors (7th grade)
Dark Blue is the feel of sadness after you lose a friend, pet, or a loved one.
Black is the feel of emptiness, when there is a big hole in your life.
White is the sound of wind, its one with the air.
Blue is the smell of dew after a Spring rain shower.
Pink is the taste of sugar, its sweet.
Ode to Tony (7th grade)
He is a wonderful pet he is.
Swimming to and fro
Till his little ol’ hearts content.
At night he rushes towards the top,
For he knows when it’s feeding time.
In the morning I wake up to him
Splishing and Splashing
It is good to hear him,
For I know he is still managing through his life.
I have had him just under five years.
Best Five years of his life.
From A small little goldfish
To a big powerful fish.
I am glad he is still alive,
For my room would be too quiet without him.
And now at the beginning of my final year
Of school, its as if he does not
Want me to go, and moves on
