ONLINE VIDEO OUTFIT Youtube is opening the way for its 15 minute limit on videos to be lifted.
Currently longer videos such as television programs and lectures have to be broken down into smaller sections.
Flicks from independent film makers also suffer from the same problems.
Joshua Siegel, a product manager at Youtube said that for three years, Youtube has used a system called Content ID to recognize copyrighted material and give the copyright owners the right to block it, track it or make money from ads on it.
Lifting time limits has been made possible because Content ID has improved and copyright violations are under control, Siegel said.
The new feature will be available only to a subset of users who have never violated Youtube's copyright rules and who have followed Youtube's community guidelines.
The change comes in response to rivals Hulu and Netflix offering people full-length television shows. Youtube wants to get people to watch its videos on bigger screens via Google TV. µ
