If there was ever a competitive RTS game, it would be Blizzard’s StarCraft franchise. Despite StarCraft 2 being released, the original StarCraft continued to remain a competitive game and a staple in the RTS circuit for a long time. That being said if you’re wondering what the fuss about the original StarCraft is about, here’s something that might be of interest to you.

It seems that a user by the name of Ryuta has managed to get StarCraft up and running within a browser. The files needed to get the game up and running has since been uploaded onto GitHub so if you’re so inclined, you could actually get the game hosted on your own server and start playing it.

However it should be noted that this isn’t the full game per se. Rather it’s a series of demos that players can take for a spin just to see what the game is like, and we suppose to a certain extent show off the power of the HTML5 standard which many believe will soon takeover Flash completely.

Playing StarCraft on a web browser sounds like a convenient way to play StarCraft from a website.

But, I bet, internet slowdown problems will make it less enjoyable than playing StarCraft on a PC's hard drive.

shows how strong browsers are today.

While this might be cool, it is illegal as long as they don't have Blizzard's permission, so I'd rather not try it.

I agree it is illegal. There were some people who got in trouble for making games like Super Mario 64 playable in Browsers which caused Nintendo to take legal action to take down the site.

But, I think no one had to go to jail, or pay a lot of royalty payments to the game makers.
