Sonic games have been MIA of late, the last mainline game was 2017’s Sonic Forces. In a recent official livestream, the first one of 2020 due to COVID-19, Sonic’s social media manager Aaron Webber gave some clarification on why the wait for information on the next game has been so long.
While Sega used to release Sonic games on an almost yearly basis, Webber points out that the quality wasn’t at the level “it needed to be” in some cases due to rushed production schedules. In response, a couple of years ago the teams involved decided to “put more time into things as [they] go forward”, hence the longer wait for information.
