We have heard reports in the past that Sony could be considering selling off its smartphone business and if you’re wondering how true those rumors are, they have been sort of confirmed by Sony’s CEO Kazuo Hirai. This is according to a report from Reuters in which Hirai stated that the smartphone division basically had a year to break even, otherwise they could be looking at other options.
I have no idea, but I think Sony's gaming division will last for a long time until people stop buying consoles because of more affordable Gaming PCs which has similar games as consoles, and exclusive PC games like League of Legends, Dota 2, etc which are very popular PC games.
I bet, Sony handheld gaming division may not last much longer since there are not many people who buy the PSP Vita compared to the older PSP, Nintendo 3DS handheld, and smartphones/tablets which have similar games as some handhelds.
I think it may bring life to their Gaming handhelds because Sony will no longer be wasting money and man-power on less-profitable smartphones, so they can spend more money and hire more staff on making gaming handhelds, and handheld games which gamers want to buy.
