Sony Computer Entertainment has acquired the technology patents behind streaming service OnLive.

The terms under which the deal was made have not been shared, but Sony now owns several of OnLive's assets, including its US and International portfolio patents on cloud gaming.

OnLive is a streaming service specializing in cloud-based video game play on multiple devices. Once it begins to cut its services and products, it will downsize and eventually close down.

It will remain active until April 30, and no subscription renewals will be charged as of today, April 2. OnLive adds that those who were charged for their subscription renewal after March 28 will be issued refunds.

Sony has not yet discussed what their plans are with this technology, but it's likely they acquired the patents to add to their game streaming service PlayStation Now. They made a similar move back in 2012 when they purchased the cloud gaming service Gaikai.

I wonder what they will do with them?

It is too bad that Onlive Streaming is gone. It was a good game streaming service when I tried it on Windows a few years a go. But, with Nvidia Grid, and Playcast streaming game services, it is tougher for Onlive to get new gamers.

I bet, Sony will use Onlive tech to make their game streaming service called PS Now less laggy on slower connections.
