Sony has been offering smartphones with waterproof and dustproof bodies for a few years, even going so far as to release promotional pictures and videos showing how you could take the phone swimming and snap photos underwater.

But as XperiaBlog notes, Sony seems to have had a change of heart recently… because now the company’s website suggests that you shouldn’t actually use Sony’s waterproof phones underwater.

I bet, Sony does not recommend using their Waterproof phones underwater because they were getting a lot of warranty claims for water damaged, or they decided to not make their newer phones waterproof to save money because it cost too much money to make waterproof phones.

water proof is supposed to be an insurance against an accident or something beyond your control. To make use of it though is not a wise choice.

Exactly. It's a protective feature, not a feel free to use your phone underwater and deliberately take it swimming feature - I think that is all they are stressing here.

Sony did have some picture ads which shows their phone in Water, so they did advertise their phones as being Waterproof in the past.

I kind of feel that current owners of Sony's Xperia waterproof phones should be refunded $5 or more because Sony advertised that their phones are waterproof on an Ad.
